Benedict Thursday
Normally my Thursdays are what hold my week together. They are simply spectacular, one good thing after another. However, yesterday, November 29th 2007, was The Worst Thursday. Here are all the things that went wrong:
First, I had a huge Chem exam at 9.30am. Three chapters' worth, about a week before our final. What? Anyway I'm pretty sure I got ass-raped by this test, so there goes my Chem grade, not to mention my GPA. OH THE CONSTERNATION.
Then, the Queer that Netflix promised us would arrive never did. I'm hesitant to blame Netflix for this, because they rarely make false promises, and the fact that we didn't get any mail at all when we normally get a lot of junk every day makes me think it was just that our mail never got here. Super frustrating, because we were just about to start the third season and I was so exicted (even though Brian's hair is apparently dogpoop all of a sudden).
THEN, we left for Hare Krishna--on time for once, since normally we'd be finishing up a Queer ep and then rushing out. We got there to find the quad EMPTY. No Hare Krishnas, no delicious food, no devastated people looking bewildered and very hurt. Just us. Melissa grabbed ahold of my arm to support herself in her misery, which wasn't much use because I was nearly toppling over in agony myself. This--this just could not be. Thursday isn't Thursday without Hare Krishna. And I was under the impression that nothing could stop the Hare Krishnas, come rain or shine or sleet or apocolypse. TRAITORS. Also, it bewilders me that no one else was there looking confused like us. Usually there are tons of people there. Do the Hare Krishnas have a mailing list or something? WHERE DO I SIGN UP? Sheesh. That was intolerably rude of them! So we went to Jack Sprat's instead and I got a "thin crust" pizza which sucked because when they say "thin crust" they really mean thin crust, it was just sauce and cheese on a friggin' baked tortilla. Lame. Then to make this beyond-a-doubt the worst Thursday ever, Melissa's dad called, which was awful because she hates her dad and doesn't speak to him ever if she can avoid it but she couldn't let it go to voicemail like she usually does because he just kept calling.
The one highlight was that we still went to YoPo. I threatened to "shit a brick or something" if they were closed for some inane reason, which seemed entirely probable after the previous events. They weren't, and I got a veryberry+vanilla, yum.
THENNNNNN oh yes it gets worse. I know it's hard to imagine, but it does get worse. That night, Melissa was off with her friend Eric from her math class, working on math problems, and they returned around 12 to relax after some intense Diff Eq-ing. They wanted to play Wii tennis, and I wanted to see a good showdown. (By the way, my Wii skillz have pretty much gone THROUGH THE ROOF in the past week or so, I mean I have made all kinds of records in bowling and baseball and I am steadily improving my tennis ability. Really proud of myself here.) So they start getting set up, then...oh god...the Wii refuses to read the disc. We spent about 20 minutes trying all kinds of things--restarting, cleaning the disc, Eric's "pinching" method--we even referred to the manual! We really wanted to play some tennis. But it was all to no avail. Herbert was simply not cooperating. So that was the crappy conclusion to the crappiest Thursday ever. Shuck...that...jive.
Anyway, today is a much happier day, a Friday. I had my 9am ENST class which is always a breeeeeeeze and also really fun/interesting; now I'm at Caribou, my favorite place in the world; I have Spanish small group at 1 which is also quite easy/fun; then food and a nap. Then, this evening, my parents are taking me out to dinner (Vietnamese!) and then we're going to see The Nutcracker at Memorial Hall. Can't wait :).
Oh and I almost forgot, one thing that made this Thursday a little okay-er was that Melissa and I got Indian food for lunch. Every Monday and Thursday, Main Street Lenoir has a lot of really delicious Indian food for like $6. I got chicken/spicy sauce stuff/rice/chick peas/saag paneer/naan all in one styrofoam container and it was hot and tasty and so so good. I didn't really like the saag paneer though so I gave it to Melissa. Probably we will be back there most Thursdays from now on.
